Interested in getting
started in Free Masonry? Below are some frequently
asked questions about Free Masonry and the answers. The main question
you must ask yourself is,
"Are You ready for Free Masonry?"
|
| What is FreeMasonry? That
is a great question! Freemasonry is in all likelihood the oldest and
largest fraternal organization in the world. Freemasonry is not a
religion, but Freemasons are dedicated to serving God, family, universal
brotherhood, and their country. |
|
Who are FreeMasons?
Another great question! Many bankers, company presidents, factory
workers, truckdrivers, lawyers, cooks, plumbers, carpenters, and
a lot of other professions. Freemasons come from almost every walk
of life, and from all parts of the world. There are over 1.6 million members in North America and Ohio is one of the largest memberships in the country.
|
Do
you know a FreeMason? I would bet you do and don't even
know it! Does some of these name sound familiar? How about George
Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald
Ford, the Marquis de Lafayette, Irving Berlin, Branch Rickey, Omar
Bradley, Eddie Rickenbacker, Audie Murphy, Sir Arthur Coman Doyle,
James Cash Penney, John Wayne, Voltaire and Charles Linberg. Sound
interesting? Have you ever been hungry and just wanted a burger? Well,
the founder of Wendy's, Dave Thomas, was also a Freemason. |
Why hasn't anyone invited me to
become a Freemason?
Traditionally, Freemasons are prohibited from asking anyone to join
the fraternity. It is unmasonic for a Freemason to even ask his own
son, or any other male member of his family, to join a Masonic Lodge. Therefore, it is necessary for you to ask a Freemason about joining. |
What are the qualifications
for becoming a Free Mason?
To be accepted into the Fraternity in Ohio, you must be an adult male
19 years of age, been a resident of Ohio for at least one year, must be able to read and write the
English language, profess a belief in a Supreme Being, and be of good moral character. |
What must I do
to become a Freemason?
If you truly desire to become a member of our fraternity, you must
first let one of our members know, and ask him if he would be willing
to help you become a mason too. Of course there is more to it, but
that was the first step for all of us. The next step of joining is to download a petition of membership, fill it out and return it to a Freemason from your local lodge.
