Music in the air

Initially, a small reed organ was brought into the building to introduce music to the congregation. Later, in 1857, Mr. James Kauffman donated a pipe organ as a memorial to his deceased wife. Though Mr. Kauffman ran a large business, he continued to devote much of his time to the music of his church. His second wife, who had studied music in Vienna, became the Church organist. The family of Kate Allen Weaver, in her memory, contributed to the cost of installing the organ. Built by Carl Barkhaus of Salem, the instrument was considered to be the finest in the Miami Valley.

Masons enter

In 1901, the Church needed more room and decided to build on Park Street. They sold the Second Street property to the Miamisburg Masonic Temple Association for $5500. Later, they also sold the pipe organ for $700, since it could not be moved to the new building.
